HIPAA Privacy in Emergency Situations

The HHS Office for Civil Rights announced new guidance regarding HIPAA privacy during emergencies.

In light of the Ebola outbreak and other events, HHS issued this bulletin to ensure that HIPAA covered entities and their business associates are aware of the ways in which patient information may be shared under the Privacy Rule in an emergency situation.  Health Data Management covered this story here, and you can access the complete four-page guidance here.
